THE CAVE OF CLAMOUSE
The spring and the cave owe their name to the Occitan word "clamousa" (a woman who shouts or screams) because of the noise the underground river makes when in flood.

Grotte de clamouseConsidered as one of the most beautiful caves of France, the Clamouse cave is famous by its fine crystallization of aragonite and calcite.
It was discovered in 1945 through a dryness period, and it is connected to the Causse du Larzac by an underground network. Among the 4.000 meters of explored galleries, 900 meters are open to the general public.
The "hurleuse", in the languedocian country, is made of two networks connected in different ways : the inferior, useful as a discharge for the surplus of the plateau, and the superior one that, abandoned by the river, presents magnificent creations : red draperies, petrified waterfalls…

After crossing successive halls and corridors sculpted with stalactites and stalagmites, you will be fully enrapt and dazzled by the White Corridor, where abounds various shaped aragonites looking similar to snow crystals or bunches of flowers.
Then, by coming out of the "Graveyard", you will remain dumbfounded in front of the Jellyfish... spectacular translucent concretion coming from the coalescence of several discs..
