THE CANAL DU MIDI

Stroll or hike, there is something for everyone! The towpath welcomes you, flat and relatively wide, often shaded, far from the noise of the roads. The numerous accesses allow you to adapt your discovery to your physical condition or your timing.

A walk along the Canal du Midi is probably the easiest and most accessible way to discover and contemplate the atmosphere and natural landscapes of this remarkable structure while enjoying the shade of the plane trees, within the framework of a pleasant walk as a couple, with family or friends on the towpaths.
Still few hikers, with their backpacks loaded, set out to tackle the 241 km of the work. It is likely that the monotony of the route and the lack of elevation gain will slow down some walkers. However, walking along the Canal du Midi is an experience to be had. The beauty of the landscapes along the plane tree lanes, along the water and the locks, and the meeting with the lock keepers and the numerous pleasure boats will leave you with incomparable memories.
Hikes can be partial, as there is naturally a lot of access on foot to the towpaths or the greenway along the canal.
We invite you to consult the interactive tourist map of the Canal du Midi in order to explore the accesses that will suit you best.
You will also discover the places of restoration and other tourist providers to your service so that your walk is as pleasant as comfortable.

If you have the soul of a hiker, we invite you to consult some hiking routes along the Canal du Midi that might interest you.
