Pézenas is undoubtedly a "City of Art & History", with nearly thirty buildings listed as Historic Monuments (17th-century hotels, small palaces, shops full of charm ...). In the 13th century Saint Louis made it a royal estate, in the 17th century Molière came to stay and play with pleasure.
The entire old pedestrian town of Pézenas, is restored and in its alleys, the numerous shops of craftsmen offer quality creations.
To discover Pézenas:
- numerous visits with a qualified guide organized by the tourism office. Some, with a local theme ("in the footsteps of Molière", "the doors of Pézenas", "the restored theater"), attest of the wealth of the Pézenas inhabitant’s heritage. In the summer, theatrical visit in the evening.
- The Center of Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage houses the "Scenovision Molière" and the Tourism Office, permanent exhibition on local heritage (history, ancient skills).
- The Maison des Métiers d'Art hosts unique pieces and limited series of creative craftsmen (decorative objects, furniture, lighting, tableware, jewelry, fashion and sculptures).
- Individuals propose walks in the streets of the city to meet the craftsmen, to discover their lives and skills in their workshops.
